I was able to screen The Menu in order to write this The Menu parents guide. All opinions are my own.
Going into this movie, I thought I had a pretty good idea of what it was going to be like based on the trailers. Let me tell you now – that that isn’t the case. So forget what you think you know and just sit back and enjoy this funny horror comedy. It stars Ralph Fiennes, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Nicholas Hoult. You will also recognize John Leguizamo, Judith Light, and several other actors.
While I expected a different storyline, I wasn’t disappointed. The movie keeps you entertained from the moment it starts to the second it ends. Anya Taylor-Joy did such a great job opposite Ralph Fiennes. There were several other great actors in the movie that made it just perfect. It was funny, and entertaining, had a good storyline, and had a twist ending.
If comedy horror is your thing, you will love this movie. If you are unsure and gore, violence, and language don’t bother you – give it a try! Overall I enjoyed the movie and kept getting thrown for a loop because it didn’t go how I expected. Go see it this weekend in theaters!

The Menu Parents Guide
The Menu is rated R for strong/disturbing violent content, language throughout, and some sexual references. It runs for 1h 46m.
There are no end-credit scenes for The Menu.
Sex & Nudity – 2/5 – There are a couple of sexual references (one talking about jerking off and the other about orgasm). The main character’s dress is a little skimpy.
Violence & Gore – 5/5 – Shows a man shooting himself and then shown in a puddle of blood. Shows a man’s finger getting cut off, the finger, and a bloody hand. Shows a man being drowned. A Female stabs a male in the thigh with scissors. Shows someone hanged themselves. Violent fight and a character is stabbed in the throat (shows them dying). The end of the movie is also gory – but I won’t give any other spoilers. Just prepare yourself.
Profanity – 5/5 – At least 64 uses of the F word. 3+ uses of Ass, 12+ uses of Shit, 3+ uses Damn and GD, 3+ uses of bitch, 11+ uses of JC (also used as JFC), 14+ uses of God (also used as GD and OMG).
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking – 4/5 – Drinking is shown throughout. The main character smokes cigarettes a couple of times.
Frightening & Intense Scenes – 3/5 – There is a lot of humor to break up the violence and gore. But there are still some intense scenes. All of the ones I listed above, plus the chase scene. Again, the ending is pretty gross – and could be disturbing, especially to younger viewers.
The Menu is a funny movie with a storyline that is more original! It is definitely 18+ on this one – with the language alone – but the violence and gore are more intense.
