As many of you know, the Minions movie just came out on December 8. My kids were over the top excited to see it because we didn’t have a chance to go to the theater and watch it. I went to Target and got it last Tuesday when it was released because we wanted the Minions Metalpak Blu-ray/DVD – Deluxe version. It is exclusive to Target and they also have everything else we need for movie night – making it a one-stop shop. The Minions movie didn’t disappoint. Illumination Entertainment has done it again with another great movie that my kids will (and have already) watched again and again.
If you haven’t seen it yet – it is the prequel to Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2. You learn a lot about the minions like where they came from and how they came to be with Gru. It really is a great movie and we can’t stop giggling about all of the funny things that happen in the movie. Minions © 2015 Universal Studios. All rights reserved. came out on Blu-Ray and DVD last week, and it would make a perfect Christmas gift! My kids love the Metalpak I got at Target – so I totally recommend that! Another bonus is the 40 minutes of Target-exclusive content that you get – my kids loved this almost as much as the movie!

Of course with any movie night, we had to have a fun treat, so we came up with a yummy minions mix that they fell in love with. The kids helped me make the most of it – it was pretty easy – so your kids can do most of the work 😉 We used Rice cereal, chopped toffee peanuts, chopped chocolate sandwich cookies, chopped pretzels, dyed marshmallows, and melted chocolate. While I prepared all of the “chopped” items, I set my kids up to work on dyeing the marshmallows blue and yellow. To do this, you get small glass cups or bowls and put water about 1 inch high. Then add about 5 drops of the food coloring to the water. We used a toothpick to stir it all together. You will then have a bowl or pile of marshmallows nearby (we used the Market Pantry mini marshmallows) and used the toothpick to stick into a marshmallow, then stick it in the dye, then used another toothpick to push it off onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. They were able to get quite a few done in a short amount of time and they had a lot of fun.

After the kids were done dyeing the marshmallows, we put everything together. Mix the rice cereal, pretzels, peanuts, and cookies together. Then you will melt the chocolate (we just used a package of white almond bark) with about 1 tsp of oil. We melted it in a microwave-safe glass bowl for 1 minute, then mixed it around, then did another minute and it blended nicely. You will want to pour the chocolate over the dry mixture, stirring as you pour, to make a nice coat on everything. Then you will want to add the dyed marshmallows right away and stir some more. Once you have it all mixed, spread it out on a parchment (or tinfoil) lined cookie sheet and let it cool for about 15 minutes. During this time we made cute minions bag toppers so that the kids could have a fun treat for the movie. We used yellow, blue, white, and black paper, large googly eyes, glue, and 2-inch round plastic containers (these I had left over from scrapbook supplies that I bought). Get creative and I can promise you, your kids will have a great time making these with you.
