I was able to screen Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile in order to write this Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile parents guide. All opinions are my own.
I was able to take my kid and go screen Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I am a big fan of the books so I was hoping that they did a good job with the movie. It starts out with Hector (Javier Bardem) trying to make his way in show business. As he is looking for something unique to help him on his way, he finds Lyle (Shawn Mendes) and their journey begins. Over the course of the movie, Hector leaves Lyle and he is alone for a time before a new family (the Primm family) movies into his house.
The Primm family is played by Constance Wu, Scoot McNairy, and Winslow Fegley. Winslow has played in a few movies (8-bit Christmas, Spinning Gold) but I feel like this movie really let him shine! He did a phenomenal job as Josh. His character development from scared, to confident, to be able to be independent but still reliant on his family is great. I think it showcases what a lot of kids are going through – and to have someone like Lyle there to help him overcome his fears and to grow is great!
I loved the signing. I generally am not a big fan of a lot music – but there was a great mix of the music (which is sung mostly by Javier Bardem and Shawn Mendes) is really good. Constance Wu also has a great duet with Mendes and it was entertaining and fun! Overall we really loved the movie. We laughed a lot and really enjoyed the antics, drama, and emotions of the movie.

About Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile:
Based on the best-selling book series by Bernard Waber, Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, starring Academy Award-winner Javier Bardem, Constance Wu, and Shawn Mendes, is a live-action/CGI musical comedy that brings this beloved character to a new, global audience.
When the Primm family (Wu, Scoot McNairy, Winslow Fegley) moves to New York City, their young son Josh struggles to adapt to his new school and new friends. All of that changes when he discovers Lyle – a singing crocodile (Mendes) who loves baths, caviar and great music-living in the attic of his new home. The two become fast friends, but when Lyle’s existence is threatened by evil neighbor Mr. Grumps (Brett Gelman), the Primms must band together with Lyle’s charismatic owner, Hector P. Valenti (Bardem), to show the world that family can come from the most unexpected places and there’s nothing wrong with a big singing crocodile with an even bigger personality.
