I was able to screen Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio in order to write this Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio Parents Guide. All opinions are my own.
Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio is different that any other version of Pinocchio I have seen. There are some basic elements (like the cricket, and whale) that are the same. But overall the storyline for this one is very different and I actually felt very attached and connected to the characters in the movie. Guillermo del Toro was able to bring a depth to them that wasn’t there before.
Overall I really loved this movie. It is one your family will enjoy watching together and it really makes you stop and think about consequences, actions, words, and growing.

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio Parents Guide
Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio is rated PG for dark thematic material, violence, peril, some rude humor, and brief smoking. It runs for 1hr and 57m.
There are no end-credit scenes.
Sex & Nudity – none
Violence & Gore – Shows bombs dropping, war being fought, young boys sent out with guns, a threat to shoot a friend as motivation, being mean to an animal, a bug smashed with a book, and people shot.
Profanity – An occasional use of God.
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking – Smoking and drinking (shows a character drunk)
Frightening & Intense Scenes – War scene, a few different death scenes, the “God” creatures are a little different looking. They are chased by a big fish in the water. A character almost drowns.
Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio is a great family movie. It is a different take on it than I have seen from any other version. I actually really enjoyed watching it and all of the lessons that are to be learned throughout it.
