We have been looking forward to this movie for a long time. My family loves the Ghostbusters series and the new movies are funny and entertaining. Ghostbusters: Afterlife is funny and set up a great storyline. Bring that full circle with the original Ghosbusters movie from the 80’s and you have the newest movie – Frozen Empire. You bring together the new cast (Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, Celeste O’Connor, and Logan Kim) with the original cast (Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts) and you get a great storyline that is fun and entertaining. While there are parts of the movie I wish weren’t there (like most movies these days), overall it is a great addition to the Ghostbusters collection.
See below for a full breakdown of why we think you should definitely be more careful with this movie. It has a lot of sexual commentary, a little more language, and creepier ghosts and creatures. Kumail Nanjiani adds a lot of fun that I absolutely loved. I hope he continues as a main part of the cast going forward.
Overall, I felt like the storyline dragged just a little – spent a lot of time building up to the end. But the ins and outs of it all were good and made for a great flick. The special effects are good – some of the creatures were super creepy and others were a little cheesy – but it didn’t take away from the movie. Be sure to read the parents guide below. There are several things you will want to be aware of, especially if you are planning on taking kids.
