Dune: Part Two Parents Guide

I was able to screen Dune: Part Two in order to write this Dune: Part Two Parents Guide. All opinions are my own.

The movie in and of itself is great. It is a little slow at times, but the storyline keeps moving forward. It dwells on some things that I feel aren’t as exciting and then skips over other things quicker than I would have rather had them spend more time on. But overall the movie is really great – and a perfect second movie to DUNE! You will want to see it in the theater – it is that much better with the sounds and a big screen.

It is action-packed – a lot of war-like violence and fighting from beginning to end of this film. The transformation of Paul is fun to watch. I feel like he starts the movie as an “innocent” young man and ends it as a warrior King. There are some adult themes in the movie as well. So with all this – I would recommend 12+ for viewing.

This is one where you have to pay attention because it jumps around a lot to different characters and you have to know and understand what each of them is doing to get the full picture. (so no mid-movie bathroom breaks, haha). Sit back, relax, and enjoy this epic film!

Dune: Part Two Parents Guide

Dune: Part Two is Rated PG-13 for sequences of strong violence, some suggestive material, and brief strong language. It runs for 2hr 46m.

There are no end-credit scenes for Dune: Part Two. When the main credits start rolling, you can head out.

Sex & Nudity –  2/5 – Several scenes where Paul (Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (Zendaya) kiss. They sleep in the same tent together when traveling in the desert. It also shows a sex scene (after it’s done) but heavy breathing. They are both naked from the waist up, but you only see from the shoulders up. She is lying on her side next to him and he is on his back. A character talks about another character’s sexual drive and also talks about having secured the bloodline (insinuating sex and pregnancy). A man is shown without a shirt and women are seen painting him for battle. Two men kiss, at two different times.

Violence & Gore – 3/5 – People high on a cliff get sniped and fall a great distance to the ground. Man hit in the head with a rock and then face smashed several times. Several scenes of hand-to-hand combat, sword fights, guns, and more are being used and showing people dying. A scene where a man is stabbed in the head and the knife is held in place until he dies. It talks about “feeding” humans to creatures/girls. A character slices/stabs other characters’ throats and licks the knife point. A character is shown covered in blood after being captured, and then it is insinuated that she is burned alive.

Profanity – 1/5 – use of shit and hell, use of the word sexual, and use of the word piss

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking – 2/5 – Shows prisoners getting drugged. Social drinking. A character smoking a hookah. Characters using spice (a hallucinogen).

Frightening & Intense Scenes –  3/5 – Many different battle scenes. Big ugly worm mouths that come out of nowhere create some jump scares. When Jessica uses her powers it can be scary. It shows a man having his “water” sucked out, although he is under a blanket. You can hear women screaming as if terrified, then when you see them they are lying on the floor in unnatural positions, dead. Men are held down and injected with drugs (the struggle can be frightening or triggering). A mountain is bombed and many people are buried alive. It shows a dead man covered in creepy crawlies.

The saga continues as award-winning filmmaker Denis Villeneuve embarks on “Dune: Part Two,” the next chapter of Frank Herbert’s celebrated novel Dune, with an expanded all-star international ensemble cast. The film, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, is the highly anticipated follow-up to 2021’s six-time Academy Award-winning “Dune.”

The big-screen epic continues the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s acclaimed bestseller Dune with returning and new stars, including Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet (“Wonka,” “Call Me by Your Name”), Zendaya (“Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Malcolm & Marie,” “Euphoria”), Rebecca Ferguson (“Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning”), Oscar nominee Josh Brolin (“Avengers: End Game,” “Milk”), Oscar nominee Austin Butler (“Elvis,” “Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood”), Oscar nominee Florence Pugh (“Black Widow,” “Little Women”), Dave Bautista (the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, “Thor: Love and Thunder”), Oscar winner Christopher Walken (“The Deer Hunter,” “Hairspray”), Léa Seydoux (the “James Bond” franchise and “Crimes of the Future”), Souheila Yacoub (“The Braves,” “Climax”), with Stellan Skarsgård (the “Mamma Mia!” films, “Avengers: Age of Ultron”), with Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling (“45 Years,” “Assassin’s Creed”), and Oscar winner Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men,” “Being the Ricardos”).

“Dune: Part Two” will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a path of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.
