I was able to attend a screening in order to write this Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness parents guide. All opinions are my own.
First of all, I have to say that this movie was completely different than what I was expecting, and I loved every freaking minute of it. There is action, adventure, jump scares, cameos, surprises and so much more. It is completely unpredictable and I loved that even more.
The special effects are phenomenal. The storyline is engaging. You can’t (also don’t want to) miss even a minute of this movie or you will be lost. Go pee before it starts and then don’t drink anything lol. Be prepared to jump a few times (or more). They did great with the jump scares. There are some demonic parts to it, violence (but they did pretty good not to make it graphic).
Don’t go in assuming you know anything about the storyline. Just sit back and relax and enjoy every minute of this amazing movie that director Sam Raimi and producer Kevin Feige brought to life. Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlette Witch), Benedict Wong (as Wong), Xochitl Gomez (as America Chavez), and Rachel McAdams (as Christine Palmer) all did an amazing job as their own character and together on screen.
Also, I have to point out what a fantastic job Benedict Cumberbatch did playing all the different Doctor Stranges (you see in the trailers). And, if you get a chance, make sure you have watched Doctor Strange and Wandavision for more background and understanding of what is going on in the movie.
We watched it on the IMAX and it made it so much better. I highly recommend it if you can! Check out where it is playing and get your tickets here: https://www.fandango.com/doctor-strange-in-the-multiverse-of-madness-2022-222999/movie-overview
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Parents Guide
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, frightening images, and some language. and runs for 2 hours and 6 minutes.
There are 2 mid/end credit scenes for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Sex & Nudity – It shows a male character without a shirt on. Literally nothing – it was very clean where this area is concerned.
Violence & Gore – There is a lot here. Hand to hand combat, magical fighting, lady burns to death (happens in about 5 seconds), people are vaporized, a monster eyeball stabbed and ripped out, several characters dying in gruesome ways (brain explodes inside head, turned into “spaghetti”, cut in half, and more). A man falls and is impaled.
Profanity – Smartass, Shit, Damn, partial SOB, Hell, and GD. Overall – probably 10 swears or less. One of the characters says “out of his butt”, another says “running naked from a clown”.
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking – It shows drinking at a party.
Frightening & Intense Scenes – Shows people being possessed, people being tortured, several jump-scares, several creepy images of a demon or demon-like creatures, a Zombie, 3-eyed characters.
Overall I would say that the movie is probably good for 10 and older if they can handle creepy stuff and are already familiar with the Marvel movies. Otherwise, I would stick to the 13 and older on this one. It can be not only creepy, but really intense, and a little demonic.
