We received a copy for review. All opinions are my own. Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp is out to own today! This is one of the best Marvel movies so far, packed with humor, action and a great storyline. Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly joined with Michael Douglas make the perfect on-screen trio. To celebrate this fab film, we had a lot of fun making Ant-Man and the Wasp Cupcakes.
Ant-Man and the Wasp Cupcakes
To make these fun themed Ant-Man and the Wasp cupcakes, you will need the following:
- white cake mix (or your own)
- cream cheese frosting (or make your own)
- food coloring (burgundy or red, yellow, black)
- cake decorating supplies
- white granulated sugar
- sprinkles, decorations, liners (we found candy ants at the store – perfect timing around Halloween)
Make your cake mix and split into two bowls. Color one red (or burgundy) and the other black. Spoon them into mini-cupcake liners and bake according to package directions. While they are baking you can get the frosting ready. Split a tub into two and color one black and the other red. If you are using the gel coloring as recommended above, you will need to just put a small amount on the tip of a spoon and mix it in. With the liquid, you will need quite a bit to make it red or black.
We are going to color the sugar crystals to put on top of the cupcakes. To do this – put three heaping tablespoons into three different jars. I used mason jars, but you can use small glass bowls too. Now you will take a spoon and put some of the gel coloring on it and then mix and mix until the crystals are the color of the gel coloring. There will be some coloring stuck to the spoon, just rinse it off when you are done mixing. Do this for the remaining colors, using a clean dry spoon with each one.
When the cupcakes are done and have cooled, you will apply the frosting. I used a decorating tip, but you can frost them with a knife too. Whichever you want. The tip will make a higher, thicker layer of frosting on top, which is what I wanted – to look like an ant hill of sorts. I put black on the red cupcakes and red on the black ones. Once the frosting is on, then you will add the sugar crystals.
I recommend using your fingers and just sprinkling it on top of the cupcake so it goes on evenly. Rinse your fingers between colors so they don’t mix. Now you can add the candy ants and sprinkles. These took about 45 mins from start to finish (including baking time) so be sure to make these for your Ant-Man and the Wasp movie night! They will be a huge hit with your kiddos, and their friends!
